Small Business United is proud to announce the founding members of its Steering Committee: Freddy Castiblanco of Terraza 7, Adam Glenn of Jimmy's Corner, Emelyn Stuart of Stuart Cinema & Cafe, Emil Bovbjerg of Dada Bar, and Betty Yang of ThaMiND Learn IC Center.

These leaders represent businesses that serve as cultural anchors, gathering spaces, and economic engines in neighborhoods across New York City. Together, they bring decades of experience, deep community relationships, and a shared commitment to protecting independent small businesses.

As founding members of the Steering Committee, they will help guide the growth of Small Business United, a coalition working to advance policies that support locally owned businesses and strengthen neighborhood commercial corridors. The committee will play a central role in shaping campaign strategy, engaging small business owners across the city, and advancing the campaign for Small Business Rent Stabilization.

Independent businesses are essential to the character, culture, and economic vitality of New York City's neighborhoods. Yet rising commercial rents and ongoing displacement continue to threaten the businesses that communities depend on every day. Through grassroots leadership and collective action, Small Business United is working to ensure that independent businesses can remain rooted in their communities and continue to thrive for generations to come.

We are honored to welcome these founding Steering Committee members and look forward to building a stronger future for New York City's small business community together.

If you are a small business owner interested in joining the effort, become part of Small Business United to connect with fellow business owners, stay informed about the campaign for Small Business Rent Stabilization, and help build a stronger voice for independent businesses across New York City. Op-Ed | Building a city that values home-based providers

Years ago, New York City took its first steps toward expanding public child care with the creation of Pre-K and 3-K. Those investments changed lives. But as the city expanded access, too many family child care providers — the home-based educators who have long anchored their communities — were left behind.
