Liberation Summer: BronxArtSpace Overall Recap
In Hunts Point, BronxArtSpace emerged as a central hub for Liberation Summer 2023. Deeply connected to the neighborhood where Rebel Diaz made their mark, the venue was transformed into a nexus for education, art, and community.
The summer's programming revolved around the five pillars of hip-hop: breakdancing, graffiti, MCing, DJing, and, crucially, knowledge and political education. It offered a free and safe space for young people and the community to delve into their history, celebrate their culture, and unite in solidarity.
From the birth of hip-hop in the Bronx to its global resonance as a megaphone for overlooked communities, artists such as Ana Tijoux, Rah Digga, Popmaster Fabel, and many others illuminated with their narratives of resistance. Their performances celebrated the culture and drew attention to the struggles against neoliberal policies from the Bronx to Santiago.
Participating artists included: Ana Tijoux, Rah Digga, Hordatoj, Rebel Diaz, DJ Atenea, Popmaster Fabel, MC Millaray, Audry Funk, Lalo Meneses, DJ KayKay47, DJ Illanoiz, Kaylove BX, King Capo, B-Boy Pollo, Kid Break, Los del Sur, Division X, Fatima Rivera, Fabio Puentes, Lope de Nava, Keith Rosello, Miguel Gonzales, Jose Gonzales, DJ Andres Cali y A Desalambrar.
