As part of The Action Lab’s deep and ongoing work to nurture the next generation of innovative movement lawyers, we were excited to host our second annual Law and Organizing Academy.

We worked with close to 40 law students and organized the program in partnership with the Law & Political Economy Project and the NYU Initiative for Community Power, along with a range of frontline social justice organizations, such as the Center for Constitutional Rights, VOCAL, Make the Road NY and NJ, TakeRoot Justice and the Safety Net Project.

Our expert teachers and facilitators introduced rising second- and third-year law students to critical organizing and LPE frameworks, with a focus on housing justice, decarceration, and worker power. We look forward to working with our growing body of alumni to support the critical organizing work of our partners.

On Thursday, November 20, the Empire State Campaign for Child Care, a partner of The Action Lab, held a press conference and rally on the steps of City Hall to release key recommendations for making Universal Child Care a reality in New York State.
